Extending the Body, Reflecting the Earth
New European Bauhaus Festival 2026 — Satellite Event
9–13 June 2026 | UVT Art Center, Timisoara
The Faculty of Arts and Design – West University of Timisoara invites you to the opening of “Extending the Body, Reflecting the Earth”, a satellite event of the New European Bauhaus Festival 2026, affiliated with the thematic axis “Reconnecting with Nature” and dedicated to the emerging relationships between body, technology, perception, and contemporary ecologies.
Conceived as a “living constellation” of media installations created by FAD/UVT students and alumni, the project explores how bodies, technologies, and planetary processes may coexist within a relational ecosystem of memory, sensitivity, and imagination. In this context, technology no longer appears merely as a functional tool of control or representation, but as a sensitive medium for connection, reflection, and ecological attunement.
Through its relation to the “Reconnecting with Nature” direction, the project proposes a reconsideration of the relationship between humans and the environment from the perspective of media art and emerging technologies, investigating ways in which artistic practices may reactivate forms of attention, empathy, and ecological awareness within a deeply technologized culture, while contributing to the reimagining of the relationship between body, environment, and contemporary living spaces.
The installations presented within the exhibition transform breath, movement, light, atmosphere, data, and collective presence into systems of distributed perception, where visitors become co-creators of dynamic and immersive environments. The project thus reflects on the fragile relationship between the human, the technological, and the ecological in a world continuously negotiating possible futures.
Alongside the exhibition, the smART+TECH+NATURE Lab FAD/UVT roundtable brings together artists, researchers, and invited guests from five research centers of the West University of Timisoara — ICAM, CCCADD, CCAVC, CICASP, and CR-CERC — in a series of conversations dedicated to new cultural ecologies, emerging technologies, and interdisciplinary pedagogies.
The project connects art, research, and emerging technologies within an interdisciplinary framework reflecting the core values of the New European Bauhaus: sustainability, aesthetics, and inclusion.
